Revolutionary Aftermaths:

International Perspectives on America as a Cold War Power

The Membership Committee of the Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) welcomes paper proposals for its sponsored panel at the 2012 SHAFR annual conference in Hartford, Connecticut. 

If chosen, the applicant will be provided with a SHAFR Conference Grant for International Scholars and Students (CGISS) to fund airfare, ground transportation, accommodations, and meals in an amount not to exceed $2,000.  Applicants are required to apply for funding from their home institution in order to defray costs for SHAFR.

The Committee will assemble the panel, which will include both papers and commentators.  Full panel proposals are welcome.  For those papers not accepted to the panel, the Membership Committee will recommend to the SHAFR Program Committee their consideration for inclusion in other panels.

Theme:  Must engage the SHAFR conference of “revolutionary aftermaths” (see the SHAFR Call for Papers) and focus on international perspectives of U.S. Cold War power in any region and region, and focused on any category of foreign relations (culture, security, politics, economics, intellectual, etc.).  

Eligibility:  All international (non-American and dual citizens) faculty and students studying anywhere in the world, including the United States.  Students must be at doctoral dissertation research stage (ABD).  Applicants also must address the theme.

APPLICATION (no longer than TWO pages) must include:

1.  Name and affiliation

2.  Nationality

3.  If student, evidence of status in doctoral program (statement from an advisor)

4.  SHAFR experience (attendance at conferences, membership, knowledge of

            SHAFR, etc.)

5.  Funding need:

a) evidence of request and outcome of request to home or other institutions for travel funding to SHAFR conference

b) budget estimate (airfare, ground transportation, hotel (at least 3 nights),

per diem meal allowance).

6.  One-page abstract that includes:

a) a title and summary (including how paper addresses the theme of panel)

b) indication of sources.  Preference to multinational research.
